Grade 5 Science Q1 - Materials
-featured.png)
This elementary course explains what matter is and its three states, teaches measurement using mL, L, g, kg and °C, and shows how heat causes melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation. Students learn the scientific method through hands-on activities and finish by planning a simple investigation, building measurement skills, critical thinking, and confidence in doing science.

What you'll learn
- Describe matter as anything that has mass and takes up space, identifying the presence of matter in everyday objects.
- Identify and describe the distinct properties of solids, liquids, and gases in terms of definite or indefinite shape and volume.
- Use appropriate tools and standard metric units (milliliters, liters, grams, kilograms, and degrees Celsius) to measure the mass, volume, and temperature of materials.
- Describe how changes in temperature (heat energy) cause matter to change from one state to another, such as solid to liquid to gas.
- Describe the necessary steps of a simple science investigation: identifying the problem, materials, procedure, and conclusion/findings.
- Plan a simple scientific investigation to answer a specific question, using appropriate science equipment and units accurately.
